Krav Maga is a popular fighting and self-defence system that has its origin in Israel. The system is aimed at reacting as quickly as possible to threatening situations.
What is Krav Maga?
Krav Maga, which is the Hebrew translation for contact fight, was developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, also known as Imi Sde-Or, a martial artist from Israel. As a young kid, he developed a special interest in sports like wrestling and karate, because he had to deal with violence and he wanted to defend himself in an effective way against threatening situations.
Initially, the self-defence system was only used by Israeli military forces, but over time, the self-defense method was more attuned to citizens. The Krav Maga method is a suitable method for both women and men of all ages to cope with dangerous situations.
Over the years, Krav Maga has grown in popularity. Krav Maga classes are being tought to the Israelian army, while various top police and military units from all over the global are using the self-defence system of Imi Lichtenfeld as well.
Difference with other self-defence systems
Krav Maga is purely focused on responding to threatening situations as effectively and quickly as possible, so that you are able to defend yourself when you are the victim of a robbery, kidnap, etc. In general, other defence systems have all kids of graceful movements, but that is absolutely not the case with Krav Maga.
