Sochi, a city with 400,000 inhabitants near the Black Sea, is a remarkable host for the Winter Olympics. Events in Krasnaya Polyana
The majority of the events will take place in Sochi (the Coastal Cluster) , but a number of competitions, such as cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing and ski jumping are taking place in Krasnaya Polyana, a mountain village located around 32 miles east of Sochi. The events at Krasnaya Polyana are scheduled in the so-called Mountain Cluster. Since the two venues are located so close to each other, people also say that the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi are the most compact Winter Olympics ever.
