The 2019 PDC World Darts Championship takes place from 13 December 2018 to 1 January 2019 in Alexandra Palace (‘Ally Pally’) in London, United Kingdom. The prize money is 2,500,000 British Pounds, which is 700,000 more than in 2018.
The 2019 PDC World Darts Championship is the 26th world championship, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. 96 darts players from all over the world are competing to win the PDC World Championship title 2018/2019 over a 20-day period, including 4 resting days, including Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Prize Money
In total, there is 2,500,000 GBP to share between the 96 darts players. The winner and new world champion will win 500,000 British Pounds, 100,000 more than the previous years. The runner up will earn 200,000. The two losing semi-finalist are going back home with 100,000 and the quarter-finalists who are not progressing to the next round can add half of that to their bank account.
If a player gets eliminated in the Round-of-Sixteen, then he or she still earns 35,000 GBP. Third round losers (25,000), dart players who are eliminated in the second round (15,000) and first round losing players (7,500 GBP) are also earning a part of the 2,500,000 prize money.
The prize money that can be won at the 2019 PDC World Darts Championship is significantly higher than at any other darts tournament in the world.
In comparison, the winner of the Champions League of Darts earns 100,000 GBP, while a prestigious darts tournament like the Auckland Darts Masters has a total prize money of 340,000 British Pounds (the winner of the 2019 PDC World Darts Championship gets 160,000 Pounds more than the total prize money of that tournament!).
New format
For the 2018/2019 edition, the PDC has increased the number of players for the 2019 PDC World Championship Darts from 72 to 96. A new element is the participation of thirty-two qualifiers from all over the world, including at least two female participants. The best 32 players of the world, based on the PDC World Ranking, enter the 2019 PDC World Darts Championship in the second round.
