Clarence Seedorf has been appointed as the new manager of Deportivo La Coruna. The former soccer player of the Dutch national team has signed a contract up to the end of the 2017/2018 season. Deportivo is currently placed in the eighteenth position in La Liga and is in direct danger of relegation.
Seedorf grateful for opportunity
“I am very grateful to Deportivo La Coruna for this opportunity,” said the former soccer star at the press conference announcing his appointment. ‘The club is in a difficult situation, but I am very happy to get back to work in the world of soccer. I return as a trainer at a club with a big history, in a league that has given me a lot and has launched my career. It feels like it was pre-destined, I return as a coach to do exactly the same. “
Focus on defense
The expectation among football experts is that Clarence Seedorf will initially focus on the defense of the soccer team. Deportivo La Coruna has conceided so far 51 goals, and in the Spanish soccer league, no other team has conceided so many goals.
Clarence Seedorf as a player
As a player, Clarence Seedorf had a rich career: the player, born in 1976 in Parimaribo (Surinam), played in the youth of Ajax Amsterdam and he made his debut in the first team of Ajax at the age of 16. After his employment at the Amsterdam club, he played for Sampdoria, Real Madrid, Internazionale, AC Milan and Botafogo in Brazil. He played 87 international matches for the Dutch national team.
He won with his club teams a lot of championships, including the UEFA Champions League (4x) and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Seedorf not succesful as manager
As a manager he was active for AC Milan (2014) and Shenzen from China (2016). His employment at these two clubs were not very successful: at the Italian and Chinese club, his employment ended within six months. Since his employment at Shenzen in 2016, Clarence Seedorf has been associated with various clubs from leading soccer countries, but up to the contract with Deportivo, Clarence Seedorf was without a club.
