Cody Gakpo is a professional soccer player from the Netherlands. He primarily plays as a striker for his club PSV and the Dutch national team.
Cody Gakpo was born as Cody Mathès Gakpo on the 7th of May 1999 in the Dutch city of Eindhoven. His father is from Togo, with Ghanian roots, his mother is from The Netherlands.
Gakpo and the PSV Youth Academy
Gakpo started his career in the Youth Academy of Dutch giants PSV. From the youngest teams he went On November 4, 2016, he made his debut in Dutch professional football, representing PSV’s reserves in the Eerste Divisie, the second highest level of professional football in the Netherlands.
It was not long before his talent brought him to the first team of the Eindhoven club. He first got the chance at practice matches and raids, before he was finally brought into the first selection of PSV in June 2018 by then head coach Mark van Bommel.

Cody Gakpo was part of various Dutch national youth teams from the age of 18, and in 2021 he was invited to the selection of ‘Orange’ for the European Championship that was played in various European countries. During this prestigious tournament he also makes his debut for the national team, coming on in the final phase of the group match against North Macedonia.
During his third game for the Netherlands, the World Cup qualifier against Montenegro in the Philips Stadium, the home ground of PSV, he scored his first goal for the national team.
The young versatile footballer also achieved a unique feat during the World Cup: he scored in every one of Holland’s group matches, something no other player from the Dutch team had ever done before.
