Exploring Estadi Cornellà-El Prat: Home of RCD Espanyol

Located just outside Barcelona in Cornellà de Llobregat, Stage Front Stadium, formerly Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, is not merely a soccer venue—it’s a center for sports, sustainability, and community engagement. This contemporary stadium proudly hosts RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, one of Spain’s oldest soccer clubs.

A Contemporary Wonder

Opened on August 2, 2009, Estadi Cornellà-El Prat can accommodate 40,500 spectators. Designed by Mark Fenwick and Esteve Gasulla, the stadium combines innovation with practicality. It is the 10th-largest stadium in Spain and the 3rd-largest in Catalonia, highlighting its significance in Spanish soccer.

Replacing the outdated Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, the new stadium was built over three years from 2006 to 2009 at a cost of about €60 million. Its design embodies RCD Espanyol’s goals, offering not only a setting for exciting soccer games but also a place for families and the local community to unite.

Sustainability as a Priority

Stage Front Stadium stands out for its dedication to sustainability. The roof features photovoltaic panels, significantly cutting energy use and supporting the club’s eco-friendly projects.

The exterior is equally striking, with a translucent curtain façade in the club’s signature colors. At night, it lights up, creating a stunning display that represents the essence of RCD Espanyol.

An Industry Standard

In 2023, Stage Front, a top North American ticketing firm, partnered with RCD Espanyol to secure the stadium’s naming rights. This partnership aims to elevate the venue as a standard for the event industry, hosting a range of activities beyond soccer.

This collaboration emphasizes the stadium’s adaptability and its potential to be a leading site for both sports and entertainment events.
